Directive issued by the Maharashtra government to strengthen health care system

Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar on Monday (May 19, 2025) directed officials to submit proposals for the formulation of health policies and issued various directions aimed at enhancing health care services and management.
The minister directed officials to follow up on government resolutions from the Women and Child Welfare Department, including staff from Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.

He stressed transparency during the transfer of medical staff.
The health department’s press release said administrative transfers for officials who have completed service for more than eight years should be conducted through consultation and then voluntary transfers.
Transfers of officials on the S-23 compensation scale will be based on performance evaluation. The minister said that the zoning cross-department of community health officials will be completed on May 31, 2025, with priority given to regional preferences followed by zoning resettlement.
Mr. Abitkar issued the instructions at a meeting chaired by senior officials including Health Minister Nipun Vinayak.
He further directed that the service rules were revised to promote the promotion of nursing instructors to director of nursing by including a 150-day training program on the agenda.
The minister asked officials to propose a proposal to recruit contract employees in national health tasks and increase remuneration.
To address the shortage of Level I medical staff, the Minister directed the recruitment through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC).
The release said that legal companies should be appointed to draft amendments to the Mumbai Nursing Homes Act and related legislation and proposed a bill to be proposed at the upcoming monsoon meeting.
The minister also approved incentives for increased medical assistance cell personnel and reduced compensation for ASHA workers from Rs 20 per Ayushman Bharat card.
In addition, he called for the establishment of medical assistance centres in Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Mumbai and directed a 150-day action plan for the health department. Rural health and health exercise are also on the card.

To support health care workers in underserved areas, the Minister directed special facilities for doctors issued in tribal and remote areas. Recommendations for these facilities, as well as supplementary budget requirements for fiscal 2025, will be submitted immediately.
As a broader healthcare drive, 17 cancer daycare centers will be established. There will also be a campaign for schools that are free of tuberculosis and smoke-free.
By May 31, 2025, supplementary requirements of Rs 44 crore have been directed to submit to the finance department to establish a new laboratory with the National Institute of Virology as a simulation.
For the PM Medcity program, the availability of 50 acres of land near Kolhapur or Pune airports will be explored.
The Minister added that all supplementary requirements and approval provisions for the 2025 budget must be compiled and submitted to the Finance Department by the 3025 deadline, May 31.
