Following the heels of Malayalam filmmakers L2: empuraanMDMK Secretary General Vaiko announced on Tuesday (1 April 2025) that the voluntary cuts were announced in the film, and the following are the objections from right-wing groups urging the Tamil Nadu government to “ban screening” Mohanlal starrer said the film has portrayed the film as Mullaperiyar dam dam the Mullaperiyar dam is unsafe.

Rajya Sabha MP said in a statement that there was a reference to the Needumpally dam in the film and the dialogue raised a case of demolition because Travancore King was threatened by Britain to sign a 999 agreement to lease land. Mr Vaiko said: “In the conversation in four places said that even if the British left, the king had disappeared, and the dam was still there to destroy Kerala.”

Another conversation, he said, was to support the “bombing” of the dam. “If we bomb the dam, even if two blinds are opened, it will flood people and it will destroy the entire Kerala [State],” said Mr Vaiko, recalling the conversation.

MDMK leaders said the film also dismissed the security of the check dam. “It is safe only if there is no dam,” he quoted another conversation.

He pointed to the Supreme Court-appointed committee of experts ruled to study the safety of the dam, and his alleged vested interest made the film a fear of the dam among the people of Kerala.

“All controversial scenes and conversations in the film should be edited,” he said.
