The late businessman and philanthropist Ratan Tata left a surprising willingness. According to the Economic Times, he appointed Mohini Mohan Dutta, a travel sector entrepreneur, as the beneficiary of Rs 5 billion. This unexpected decision attracted the attention of both the business and the social community.

Who is Mohini Mohan Dutta?

Mohini Mohan Dutta is from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. He owns a travel agency (Taj Services) merged with Taj Services, part of the 2013 Taj Hotel. His family owns 80% of the studs, while Tata Group owns the rest.

Dutta is also a director of TC Travel Services and has been linked to Thomas Cook. He has long-term connections with Ratan Tata and his family. One of his daughters worked for nine years at Tata Trusts, before being hired by the Taj Hotels.

Reports show Dutta met Ratan Tata at the age of 24 at the dealer hotel in Jamshedpur. Dutta reportedly included Ratan Tata’s will into the will of the Tata family and close associates. They have known each other for 60 years, and Dutta once said Ratan Tata “established me.”

The Tata Group, which accounts for 0.83%, has an estimated net worth of Rs 8,000 crore. He donated most of his wealth to charities. He is known for his simplicity and he died in October 2024 at the age of 86.
