U.S. President Donald Trump listed India’s high tariffs on U.S. products on Wednesday (April 2, 2025) when he announced a comprehensive announcement of reciprocity tariffs to the country, announcing India’s “discount price discount price” to India.
“This is Liberation Day, a long-awaited moment. April 2, 2025, the day when the American industry is reborn, the day of the fate of the United States, and the day when we start to make the United States rich again. We will make it a day when it is affluent, kind and rich. The levy fee is imposed on American goods.
“The U.S. charges 2.4% motorcycle tariffs to other countries. Meanwhile, Thailand and other countries charge much higher rates, such as 60%. India charges 70%, Vietnam charges 75%, while others charge higher rates.”

Similarly, until today, the United States has charged a 2.5% tariff. Consider this 2.5% of foreigners’ cars. The EU charges us more than 10% tariffs and their VAT is much higher, much higher, much higher. The charges are much higher, probably 70%, and perhaps worst of all, the unavailable limit is Japan, and many other ranges, and many others, and all the others.
When he announced the tariffs, he raised a chart showing the tariffs on the mutual tariffs that countries like India, China, the UK and the EU and those countries now have to pay.
The chart shows India’s 56% tariffs “including currency manipulation and trade barriers” and the United States will now charge India a 26% “discount tariff.”

“India is very, very hard. Very, very hard. The Prime Minister just left. He is my good friend, but I said, ‘You are my friend, but you are not good for us. They accused us 52%. You have to understand, you have to understand, years and years, we charge almost nothing, and only seven years ago, that was seven years ago when I entered China, we started China.”
