Pet Park to be established in Chennai, Coimbatore

The Tamil Nadu government is planning to establish a pet park in Chennai, Coimbatore, Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, Minister of Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, announced at the conference on Thursday (3 April 2025). He also said the state will expand birth control measures for community dogs.
He said that setting up a pet park in Chennai and Coinbai County, costing Rs 5 crore, would involve private participation. The parks will aim to increase visibility among pet owners and will also bring revival and medical facilities to pets.
He said the state government will expand animal sterilization programs to ensure the effective operation of animal birth control centers. The project will be expanded at Rs 20 crore by the animal welfare committee and private participation.
Veterinary center that treats injured pets from Adyar will be upgraded for Rs 5 crore. The Tamil Nadu government will establish shelters under the “Vallalar Palluyir Kaapagangal” initiative to give up, recover and suffer injuries from the accident. Maintaining their shelters will be set up at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
He said a policy on abandoned animals will be developed to address issues involving abandoned pets and their conflicts with community dogs and humans. The government will set up a centre at the Chennai Veterinary College for specialized training on animal control measures at a cost of Rs 3 crore.
The minister said the state’s sheep breeding policy will be formulated, which will benefit people in the marginalized parts of society.
