Odisha kills two young sons when he opposes his decision to remarry

A man in Odisha allegedly killed his two young sons after opposing his decision to remarry, and the child’s grandmother was also the defendant’s mother and actively participated in strangling the child.

This horrible murder took place in the village of Dhanchengda in Nayagarh district of Odisha. On the morning of March 10, the bodies of two young sons were found hanging in Prakash Mohanty’s home.

When told about the death of the two children – Kash (14) and Bicash (9), Uncle Laxman Nayak became suspicious and filed a case that the family killed the two children.

According to police, Mr. Nayak’s sister, Kuma Nayak, married the defendant’s Prakash Mohanty 16 years ago, and she died for two and a half years.

After the death of his wife Kuma, Prakash and his two sons lived with Prakash’s parents (87) and Souri Mohanty (68), first in Bhubaneswar and then in the village of dhanchangada, from a year and a half.

“The defendant Prakash intends to marry another lady and has been searching for a bride and has learned that his eldest son Akash has strongly opposed it. What was determined during the investigation was that on March 9, 2025, at about noon, some people from Bhubaneswar came to the home of Prakash Mohanty in Dhanachangada and discussed the proposed marriage to him, and then they returned,” Nayagar police said.

According to police, Prakash Mohanty conspired to kill Akash and Bikash a few days later to remove the obstacles caused by the children’s second marriage.

“On the night of falling asleep on March 9, Prakash first strangled his eldest son, Akash with the assistance of his mother, and used a sari as a ligament and hung him on the stairs from a bunch of restraints on the roof of the house above the stairs, giving it a hanging color. Similarly, the two of them later strangled the youngest son Bikash and hung him from the same ligament,” Nayagar police said.

“Then the defendant Prakash Mohanty left the house when he died at night. According to their plan, at around 5 a.m. on March 10, Souri Mohanty began yelling, calling the neighbors, and giving two children suicide hangs.” Prakash Mohanty and Souri Mohanty admitted that they had murdered the two children.
