Meghalaya government sanctions over Rs 150 crore for indigenous cultural centres of “Seng Khasi”

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said his government approved construction over Rs 1.5 crore to build the indigenous cultural centre of “Seng Khasi” which will replace the existing structure built in 1951.
Sangma made the announcement on Monday when participating in the Shad Suk Mynsiem festival of the “Seng Khasi” of the indigenous faith of the Kasi tribe.
Sangma said in an article on X: “Seng Khasi has played an important role in preserving the traditions and beliefs of Aboriginal Khasi…It is pleased to announce that the Government is approving Rs 1537 crore for the construction of the Aboriginal Cultural Centre of Seng Khasi.”
“The Meghalaya government will eventually be able to meet Sen Hasi’s long-term needs,” he said.
CM recently announced a cultural centre to build Kabis at a cost of Rs 5 million. Similar funds were also provided for Raba, Koch and Chaoqiong communities, officials said.
