Trade Union Minister Jyotiradiitya Scindia said on Tuesday (April 8, 2025) that the new WAQF law will prevent property abuse and ensure that WAQF land is used for people’s development.
The WAQF (Amendment) bill was passed last week by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha after the marathon debated in both houses in the two parliaments. President Droupadi Murmu agreed to the bill on Saturday.
The bill aims to simplify the management of WAQF property (assets donated permanently by Muslims for religious or charitable purposes) and provide provisions to protect the estate and promote social welfare.

It also seeks to improve governance by increasing transparency in property management, simplifying coordination between WAQF boards and local authorities and protecting stakeholders’ rights.
Mr Scindia told reporters here on Tuesday on his way to Lok Sabha Contuturecy Guna.
“Now, WAQF land will be used for the development of the people, which is the ideology of the entire society, including the Muslim community,” he said.
Scindia said the WAQF Act also ends a monopoly for those who have vested interests and don’t even want to use them for the welfare of Muslim communities.
“Now, it will be used to develop communities for the welfare of the people,” he said.
Asked about the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting and the ongoing All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting in Gujarat, Mr Scindia said: “Parliament will only talk about its meetings, but the polling strategy and atmosphere are created by the people.”
“Our Prime Minister and Chief Minister created this atmosphere on their work. But in a democratic country, every political party has the right to meet.”
Earlier, Mr. Scindia attended the inauguration ceremony of two hotels on a railway Overbridge and Gwalior City along with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and State Councilor Narendra Singh Tomar.
He said Guarlier’s development will be further improved with the approval of the Western NYC detour, with an estimated cost of Rs 13 billion.
