Police ordered an investigation on Monday (March 17, 2025) after footage allegedly showed a policeman kicking a woman protester in the Kurgham area.
“On social media, a video tape surfaced about the public behavior of the officer in Kurgam. We are aware of yesterday’s incident and allegations about the officer’s conduct.”
It said DIG South Kashmir Range (SKR) will ask about the events that occurred on Sunday and submit a report within 10 days. Earlier, PDP leader Iltija Mufti criticized the official’s behavior and requested an investigation.
“The shock and unreliability of the police kicking the woman was just because she peacefully protested Devsar Kulgam’s mysterious death. It was this height of officials’ high behavior expected to adhere to the law, creating a trust deficit that further alienated people,” Ms. Mufti posted on X.
The body of a young man broke out in the area on Sunday after one of three figures missing since last month was recovered from the body of water.
Three days ago, his brother’s body was recovered from the same stream. At the same time, a search operation is being carried out for the third missing person.
