Army Junior Commissioner died in foiled infiltration bid near LOC near Akhnoor in Jamu

Srinagar: A junior commissioning officer (JCO) was killed in an encounter with the infiltration even as the army foiled the infiltration attempt at the Line of Control (LOC) near Akhnoor in Jamu in the early hours of Saturday.

The Army identified the dead as Subedar Kuldeep Chand of the 9th Punjab Battalion. He is a resident of Himaal Pradesh.

“He paved his life while carrying out a reverse infiltration operation along the LOC in Keri Battal area of ​​Sunderbani… The courage of Subedar Kuldeep’s team, his ultimate sacrifice thwarted the infiltration attempts of terrorists.
Army officials said the troops had noticed the movement of armed infiltration near a canal in the forest area of ​​Keri Bhattal on Friday night. The group was challenged by the armed forces, leading to a fierce exchange of fires.

Officials said the entire area was related to the deployment of reinforcements and search operations were underway.

The incident took place two days after India and Pakistan held a brigade commander-level flag meeting in the neighboring Poonch region to discuss issues related to border management. This is the second meeting of such since February, reducing tensions following several cross-border shooting incidents and IED attacks along the LOC.
