Personal life
Khaitan, 81, was born in a Marwari family in Kolkata. He has studied in institutions such as Mayo College in Ajmer, St. Xavier College in Kolkata and BMS Engineering College. He also reportedly completed management finance and accounting courses at Harvard University.
Even though Khaitan belonged to a teetoto family, he became interested in the alcohol trade while in school. Khaitan’s son Abhishek Khaitan serves as managing director of Radico Khaitan.
Business and work
Khaitan inherited the liquor company in 1995 as his father, GN Khaitan, divided the family business into his four sons. The company was renamed under Khaitan and expanded to branded beverages, with 8 p.m. Whiskey being the first launched in 1999.
The company – also known for brands such as Magic Moment Vodka, Rampur Single Malt, Contessa Rum, Old Admiral Brandy and Jaisalmer Indian Crafts Gin – is exported to 85 countries around the world. As of April 2025, Radico Khaitan had a market value of over Rs 310,000 crore, a huge increase from the initial Rs 5 crore market value.

According to Forbes, Katan’s net worth is estimated at US$1.5 billion or nearly Rs 1.3 billion. He recently became a billionaire in 2023 at the age of 80. Khaitan won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Uttar Pradesh Association in 2017. He has also participated in various development projects, social programs and educational activities.
