Google suspends 2.9 million advertiser accounts in India, deleting 247.4 million ads in 2024

Tech giant Google said it has suspended 2.9 million advertiser accounts in India and removed 247.4 million ads in 2024 for violating its advertising policy.
According to Google’s Advertising Security Report, the highest policy violations include financial services, trademarks, abuse of advertising networks, personalized advertising, and gambling and gaming.
The company notes that it launched over 50 enhancements to its Large Language Model (LLMS) in 2024. These escalations accelerate complex investigations, helping to identify bad actors and fraudulent signals, such as illegal payment information during account setup.
Google said in a blog post that the company has also improved its defenses to defend against evolving scams, especially the rise of AI-generated public figure imitation ads.
Google said they formed a team of more than 100 experts to develop countermeasures, such as updating false statement policies to suspend advertisers that promote scams, resulting in permanent suspension of 700,000 criminal advertiser accounts.
“This has caused a 90% drop in reporting on such scam ads last year,” the company said in a blog post.
