A 30-year-old woman converted to Hinduism at a temple ceremony in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday and married a 12th grade student, police officials said.

UP is a state with inverse conversion method. The Law on Prohibition of Illegal Conversion in Uttar Pradesh, in 2021, religious Conversion in Uttar Pradesh is prohibited by force, deception or any other fraudulent means.
Police said they are currently reviewing the situation around the marriage, but no legal complaint has been filed so far.
Circle officials said Shivani first got married in Meerut, but the marriage ended in a divorce. She then married Taufiq, a resident of Saidanwali village, who was disabled after a road accident in 2011.
Recently, she has developed a relationship with a boy in grade 12, about 18 years old.
Shabnam then sought and divorced from Taufiq last Friday. Later, she turned to Hinduism and adopted the name Shivani.
The father of the 12th grade student told reporters that he supported his son’s decision and that the family would be happy if the couple was happy. “We just want both to live together in peace,” he said.
