Telangana may cross 19,500 MW power demand in 2026

Hyderabad: Telangana has surpassed the Central Electricity Administration (CEA)’s peak electricity demand in 2025. Based on an estimated 16,877 MW, the state's peak demand is 17,162 MW. Chief Energy Minister Sandeep Kumar Sultania said that with rapid growth in industry and other sectors, real power demand in 2026 could reach the 19,000 MW to 19,500 MW range, well above the CEA's projected 18,135 MW. He directed energy officials to prepare grid networks to meet rising burdens.

In a review meeting with TGSPDCL CMD Musharraf Faruqui and other officials, Sudania evaluated Southern Discom’s five-year action plan, including the power needs of the upcoming industrial zones. He asked officials to increase infrastructure by 40% to meet the surge in demand in areas such as Ibrahim Bagh, Gachibowli, Patancheru, Patancheru, Kandukur and Medchal regions.

Sudanya said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Malu Bhatti Vikramarka are committed to ensuring high-quality electricity supply throughout the state and will provide full support to the power sector. Later, he held a meeting with charge point operators urging them to speed up the setup of electric vehicle charging stations. With the rapid growth of electric vehicle adoption, Sudan urges charging point operators to build 6,000 public charging stations by 2030.
