A. Jayathilak succeeds Sarada Muraleedharan as Chief Secretary

A. Jayathilak, a Kerala Cadre Officer (IAS) in 1991, will be the next Chief Secretary for Kerala. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting Wednesday.

Mr. Jayathilak will replace Sarada Muraleedharan after retirement on April 30, where she will serve as the 50th chief secretary of the South. Dr. Jayathilak is a medical graduate student and currently serves as other chief secretary (Finance).

With Ms. Malaleedharan planning to resign at the end of April, 1989 batch officer Manoj Joshi served as secretary of the Ministry of Land Resources, and Dr. Jayathilak was reportedly in the campaign.

Mr. Jayathilak will hold the position when he retires in June 2026. He began his career with Mananthavady as a sub-collective instrument. He then held various positions including Managing Director of the Industrial Department and Regional Collector of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation, Kollam and Kozhikode, Chairman, Spice Committee and Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, as well as other Chief Secretary (Disaster Management). He also served as a representative in the Chhattisgarh government from 2002 to 2005.

Dr. Jayathilak will take over as Chief Secretary, when the state government is advancing the recovery of Wayanad Landsplines survivors. Among other things, his tenure will be keenly observed in disputes related to the suspension of IAS official N. Prasanth.

Mr. Prasanth filed serious charges against Dr. Jayathilak, accusing him of blocking his service and fabricating documents to put him in misconduct. Mr. Prasanth, who is still suspended, provided legal notices to Dr. Jayathilak, Chief Secretary Ms. Muraleedharan, IAS officials K. Gopalakrishnan and Malayalam Daily, accusing them of “making documents, criminal conspiracy, secrets, secrets, religious and illegal acts”.
