About 12 people were detained in Odisha by the West Bengal STF

Bhubaneswar: Monday was linked to violence in the Mhhidabad region of West Bengal, with about 12 people detained in the Jalsuda region of Odisha. Senior Odisha police officers told PTI they were caught by the West Bengal Police Task Force (STF).

He said that there were two sons, Ziaul Sheikh, one of the main suspects of a man and his son murder in Jafrabad in Murshidabad.

He added that after being detained, they were taken to the Banharpali police station for interrogation.
The officer said Sheikh had been arrested by West Bengal police.

These people used to work as laborers in Bundubahal, in the Bundubahal Police Department area. He said they returned to Mexidabad during Eid and were allegedly involved in the violence.


After the violence, they returned to Jharsuguda and hid. “People detained by the STF are being questioned and their cell phones are being verified to determine their presence in Murshidabad on the day of violence. According to Prima Facie evidence, action will be taken, action will be taken,” the official said.

Three people were killed, several were injured, and many shops and houses were destroyed because violence in Merhidabad attacked part of Merhidabad during the WAQF (Amendment) Act protests.
