Acer India announces monthly menstrual leave

New Delhi, March 24 (PTI) Acer India launched a menstrual leave policy that will take another monthly paid leave for female employees as the tech company joins an increasing lineup of companies that hope to promote more supportive workplaces and champion gender-comprehensive.

The company said in a statement that its latest move will enable female employees to prioritize menstrual health without compromising their rights to routine leave.

Acer India said: “Acer India has introduced ‘Matrika’, a menstrual leave policy to promote a more inclusive and supportive workplace…Under this policy, female employees will be entitled to an additional monthly fee for leave…” Acer India said.

According to the company, the move coincides with Acer India’s broader vision of creating a workplace that supports gender inclusion, health and overall employee support.

“The workplace that truly supports its people goes beyond policy, which promotes understanding, respect and real change. Through the ‘Matrika’ menstrual leave policy, we are taking a step towards a normalization of dialogue around women’s health and well-being.”

The company further stated that as more organizations recognize the importance of menstrual leave, “Matrika” sets Acer India as a forward-looking employer to prioritize gender equality and employee-centric initiatives.

Earlier this month, Larsen, the leading companies in engineering, procurement and construction majors, and Toubro, the first major companies, announced a one-day paid menstrual leave for women employees, a move that would benefit the company’s approximately 5,000 female employees.

Companies like Swiggy and Zomato have announced announcements about the lower menstrual lobes in the past, but the move by Larsen and Toubro marks a major businessman’s announcement of such an initiative to ensure a better work-life balance for their female employees.

Four states in Bihar, Odisha, Sikkim and Kerala have set rules for menstrual leaves for their employees.
