Travelers seek regular police patrols at Vellore’s new bus stop

Travelers are calling for more security measures, including regular police patrols, due to an increase in footprint, the new bus terminal at the old Capadi Road.
The facility is located near the Chennai-Bangladesh Highway and was unveiled by Chief Minister MK Stalin in June 2021. In November 2023, a permanent police outpost was opened in Terminus. According to the specification, ten police officers should be deployed in shifts every day.
However, commuters have marked the existing outposts located in the bay for Chennai-bound buses and do not have enough responsibilities around the clock. Furthermore, the terminal does not have a generator backup during power reduction.
When you step high, especially during weekends and festivals, you can see some private security personnel on the facilities. “In many places, the tiled floors are damaged. The safety of commuters, especially women and children, remains a problem because we cannot find police officers in the facility. …” said N. Vignesh, who frequently uses the facility.
The existing outpost, attached to Vellore North Police, features two rooms with CCTV cameras. People can file complaints on the facilities.
Company officials said sanitation workers are deploying to clean the facility every day. The terminal also has facilities to isolate waste. Citizen officials said duplicate requests have been made to the district government and police to permanently provide deployment of police personnel to ensure the safety of commuters at the terminal station. The new terminal station maintained by Vellore Corporation is boarded by the public on buses to places where pilgrimage such as Tirupati, Tiruvannamalai, Sholinghur and Kancheepuram. Buses to cities such as Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Madurai, Tiruchi, Salem and Coimbatore can also be boarded from the terminal. There are over 75,000 passenger commission buses every day.
