Adrian Ramsay and Ellie Chowns bid

Adrian Ramsay, co-leader of the Green Party in England and Wales, launched a new party-led bid with Green MP Ellie Chowns.

They hope to become co-leaders after the campaign kicks off on May 5 and compete with the party’s deputy leader Zach Polansky.

Ramsay was elected as co-leader of Carla Denyer in 2021, but Denyer announced on Thursday that she will not stand up when she is re-elected later this year.

Leadership nominations open on June 2, with party members voting throughout August, and then announcing the results on September 2.

The Greens usually elect co-leaders every two years, but Ramsey and the deniers were initially elected for three years.

Due to the election, members voted not to choose new leaders.

According to the party regulations, there can be one leader, but if two co-leaders are elected, they must be of different genders.

North Herefordshire MP Chowns said she and Ramsey were “ready to lead our party into the most ambitious chapter to date”.

“We need leaders at the core of Westminster’s national politics,” she said, adding that the two said with confidence that we can win power nationwide and use it to reshape the political landscape”.

Ramsey said it was time to “based on our tried and tested green leadership”, adding that his party “must be prepared to lead – not only speak out loud, but act – and have the potential to maintain a balance of power.”

“We have shown that we can win seats that are seen as impossible – now we need to turn those victories into real power,” said the MP in the Vowini Valley. “This means electing more MPs and talking to millions of people and putting green ideas at the heart of the next administration.”

Initiate his leadership, Polansky Say the party needs to build a “mass movement” “Real alternative” to the Nigel Farage party with Nigel Farage.
