Maga to Masga? Trump signs order “make American showers great again”
U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to increase water pressure restrictions in showers – the White House said, “makes great again in the United States,” (MAGSA). The 78-year-old president has long complained about insufficient water pressure in U.S. bathrooms, which he blamed on federal protection regulations.
‘Drip, drip, drip’
“In my case, I like taking a shower and taking care of my beautiful hair,” Trump said when signing an order at the Oval Office in the U.S. capital, Washington, D.C., who added: “I have to stand in the shower for 15 minutes before getting wet.
The order directs the Department of Energy to withdraw “Radical Green” regulations that limit the flow of showers to 2.5 gallons of water per minute.
“Bureaucratic Nightmare”
Trump excavated former U.S. president and Democratic leaders Barack Obama and Joe Biden, describing the water regulations as “Obama-Biden’s war in showers.” The new order “relieve Americans from too many regulations and turn basic household items into bureaucratic nightmares,” he said.
Trump targeted water pressure standards for shower heads, toilets, dishwashers and several other household appliances since the first presidency that lasted from 2016 to 2020.
Since then, the Consumer and Protection Team have long seen that changes in the rules are wasteful and unnecessary. The Equipment Standards Awareness Project shared a factual note in 2024, which said that the U.S. has set efficiency standards more than thirty years ago, “reducing water waste…saves consumers water and energy bills and helps protect the environment.”
The 1992 Energy Act signed by Donald Trumps restricts the production of showerheads in the United States by no more than 2.5 gallons (9.5 liters) per minute. The Obama administration has redefined the shower rules to impose flow rate limits on the entire shower head, rather than per nozzle, for shower heads with multiple nozzles. Since Trump’s first term is about to end in 2020, he allowed up to 2.5 gallons per minute per nozzle. But Joe Biden blocked Trump’s rule.
