KSEB seeks power regulation committee to use coal distribution nods to long-term power procurement

Kerala National Electricity Commission (KSEB) has sought approval from the State Electricity Regulatory Commission to implement its long-term power procurement plan for the stable utilization and distribution of Koyala under the plan (Shakti).

The committee is expected to hold a hearing on the KSEB plea on Tuesday.

Under the plan, KSEB hopes to combine 500 megawatts (MW) all-weather (RTC) for 25 years.

The centre responded to the requests of the Kerala government, which last year designated 500 MW of long-term coal connections under the Shakti plan of the Union Coal Ministry. The B (IV) of the plan stipulates that coal connections are allocated to states for new electricity purchase agreements. States can transfer these connections to the Distribution Company (Discoms) – KSEB in the Kerala case.

KSEB also seeks approval from the Central PSU Power Finance Corporation (PFC) as a long-term procurement transaction advisor.

State-owned power utilities are expected to start supply in August this year.
