CM Revanth joins DHARNA to participate in BC quota in Delhi

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accompanied by several ministers, traveled to Delhi on Tuesday evening to attend the “Maha Dharna” organized by the union of the backward class (BC) in Jantar Mantar on Wednesday. Maha Dharna’s aim was to force the center to approve the 42% BC quota bill passed by the Legislative Assembly in March.
The chief ministers who join Delhi will be Deputy Chief Minister Malu Bhatti Vikramarka, as well as Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Konda Surekha.
The state government is seeking intervention from the center to include 42% of the state’s BC booking bills in the ninth time of the Constitution.
Revanth Reddy plans to meet with senior leaders including AICC leader Rahul Gandhi, asking him to support him in putting pressure on the central government led by BJP.
The Chief Minister will also meet with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and seek support for Parliament’s bill at the ongoing budget meeting to ensure Telangana’s quota relocation ensures constitutional protection.
To avoid quota legislation from judicial scrutiny, the state government is seeking to include it in the ninth timeline of the Constitution. This would reflect a provision for Tamil Nadu, which is implementing 69 per cent bookings, exceeding the Supreme Court’s 50 per cent cap on overall bookings. Telangana’s retention will rise to 67%.
The Chief Minister and his delegation will also meet with the political leaders in Delhi to win support for the measure.
