Crime thriller Ajay Devgn performed strongly at the box office in the first week. Also featuring Riteish Deshmukh, Vaani Kapoor, Rajat Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, and Amit Sial in the leading roles, the film was released in the cinemas on Thursday, May 1, and minted Rs 78.75 crore net in India and Rs 108.65 crore gross globally in the first five days of its release.
The Ajay Devgn-starer received a network of Rs 6.75 crore in India on Tuesday, May 6, according to early estimates from entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk. This means that the net amount of RAID 2's six-day collection in India is Rs 855 billion. Crime thriller has now surpassed the domestic box office Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday and R Madhavan-Starrer Kesari Chapter 2.
Against the backdrop of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the historical court drama Kesari Chapter 2 was released on April 18. Within 19 days since its release, Karan Johar's production and Karan Singh Tyagi's directorial debut won a network of Rs 821 million on Tuesday, May 6.
Back to RAID 2, the latest movie is a direct sequel to the 2018 movie RAID. The 2018 crime thriller made Rs 40 crore for Rs 40 crore, a huge commercial success as it earned a net worth of Rs 100.3 crore in India, with a total global box office of Rs 15.4 crore. The sequel is likely to surpass the first part of the box office on the second weekend.
Like the original sequel, the sequel draws inspiration from real-life income tax raids, showing how income tax department officials can work with intelligence agencies to investigate and expose white-collar criminal activities. RAID 2 is directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, who also took on the first part.
