Starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday in the leading roles, the historical courtroom drama Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh was released in the cinemas on April 18. The film is based on how the advocate C Shankaran Nair, played by Akshay, fought against the British Raj to uncover the conspiracy behind the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh. Kesari Chapter 2 adapted from the case of Raghu Palat and Nair’s great-grandson and his wife shocked the empire.
On the opening weekend, Akshay Kumar’s film received a net of Rs 2.95 crore in India, with a global box office of Rs 4.975 crore. According to early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk, Kesari Chapter 2 increased its net amount by Rs 450 crore on the first Monday, April 21 (IE). This is 62.50 rupees less than its Sunday collection rate. This means that Kesari 2 won Rs 34 crore in the first four days of India and surpassed Rs 5,000 crore at the global box office.
Kesari Chapter 2 is a spiritual sequel to the 2019 war movie Kesari, which is also a headline for Akshay Kumar and is based on the Battle of Saragarhi in 1897, between 21 Sikhs and 20,000 Korean tribes in the British Indian Army. The latest release was released in the directorial debut by Karan Singh Tyagi, and also featured key roles by Regina Cassandra, Simon Paisley Day, Amit Sial, Steven Hartley, Mark Bennington and Alexx O’Nell. Kesari and Kesari Chapter 2 is funded by Karan Johar under his works of flag Dharma.
The Historical Court Drama is the second year of the historical war drama Sky Force released by Akshay Kumar, which was released in January and received a network of Rs 11.3 crore in India. The award-winning actor also owns the comedy Housefull 5, while the legal drama Jolly LLB 3 is lined up for release this year.
