Amit Shah reviews the implementation of three criminal laws in Puducherry

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 that the First Information Report (FIR) of the United Territory of Puducher should be registered in Tamil and that other languages ​​should be provided to those who need it in other languages.

Mr. Shah held a review meeting with Lieutenant Puducherry K. Kailashnathan to assess the implementation of three new criminal laws on Union territory. The discussion focused on progress and status of key provisions regarding police, prisons, courts, prosecutions and forensic services.

The minister said that fingerprints of all arrested criminals should be recorded under the National Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) so that the database can be used optimally. He said only the Director of Prosecution (DOP) should be entitled to legal advice in any case. The Home Secretary said that regulations such as E-Summons, E-Sakshya, Nyaya Shruti and forensic medicine should be implemented as soon as possible.

He said that the Chief Secretary and Director-General of Police of the Puducher Alliance Territory should review the progress of the implementation of the new criminal law once a week, with the Puducher Home Secretary and the Lieutenant Governor every 15 days.
