Amplus solar brand reinvented as Gentari, Pungalia, named India Head

New Delhi: Malaysian clean energy solutions provider Gentari has announced the integration of components of its commercial and industrial (C&I) division Amplus Solar into the Gentari brand.
The move marks a significant integration of Gentari's renewable energy business in India, unifying the operations of individual brands as it aims to expand its clean energy products in distributed and utility-scale segments. It was also during the transition of leadership, with Amplus CEO Sharad Pungalia taking over as the country head of Gentari after he took over Navjit Gill's recent departure.
“With more than 20 years of experience in the Indian energy sector, Sarad will now lead Gentari's overall integrated operations in India, covering its renewable energy, hydrogen and green liquidity businesses,” a company statement said.
Malaysia's state-run energy professional Petronas acquired Amplus in 2019. Amplus has been part of the Gentari Group since 2023. Gentari said the latest move not only reflects a unified brand identity, but also strengthens consistency across the team, allowing the group to provide more cohesive and scalable clean energy solutions.
“This integration further brings together Amplus Solar's in-depth expertise in the C&I field, as well as Gentari's broader utility-scale ambitions,” the statement added.
Gentari CEO Sushil Purohit added: “By bringing together our capabilities for renewable energy at C&I and utility scale, we are strengthening the foundation to provide greater value to our customers. Under a United Gentari brand, we intend to take a more unified and impactful approach to accelerate the energy transition in India.”
Purohit believes Pungalia's leadership at Amplus has solidified Gentari's presence in the renewable energy sector. “His industry experience and depth of his track record in scaling clean energy solutions has made him well drive our Indian operations,” he said.
Gentari currently has a renewable energy capacity of approximately 6 GW in India, including operational and under-supplied projects. This includes the capacity of Amplus solar.
The company is also developing a 650 MW carbon-free energy project to power AMG Ammmia’s upcoming green ammonia facility under a long-term purchase agreement.
In March, Gentari acquired a 1.6 GW solar and wind portfolio in India from New York-based Brookfield Asset Management. It is also a shareholder of Am Green, a green hydrogen and ammonia company that aims to produce 5 million tons of green ammonia annually by 2030, equivalent to 1 million tons of green hydrogen.
