A court on Monday (31 March 2025) was acquitted of 12 people accused of murdering two people during the 2020 Delhi riots, saying there was no evidence that either of them were members of the mob.
Other meeting judge Pulastya Pramachala observed that WhatsApp chats on one of the defendants in the two murders were not “substantial evidence”.

According to the charge form, victims Aamin and Bhure Ali were killed by mobs, whose bodies were thrown into drainage from February 25 to 26, 2020, respectively.
In two orders on March 28, the court said the evidence of the prosecution’s exchange of information exchanged by the defendants to the murder case in WhatsApp group cannot be used as substantive or primary evidence.
“The posts like this may be just to be a hero to the rest of the group. It may also be a brag without truth. Therefore, relying on chats cannot prove that the defendant’s Lokesh Solicchi actually killed two Muslims. These chats can be used as evidence at best,” the court said. ”
It said prosecutors rely on the same WhatsApp chat to support murder charges against defendants in several other cases.
The judge said that despite the establishment of murder, their details, including time and place, were not proven. Furthermore, another question that has not been answered is whether the crime was committed by an illegal parliament composed of five or more people, he said.
“Just say that there is no evidence that any defendant is a member of the culprit, it is only a form,” the judge said.
The judge also pointed out that the main prosecutor did not identify the defendant, but rather a “broad statement” that “may be based on rumors.”
“I found no evidence of the allegations against the defendant at all. The charges,” the judge said.
