Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) vice-president Kolanukonda Shivaji on Saturday (May 10) said the State Cabinet, which passed a resolution in its recent meeting declaring Amaravati as the permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh and has urged the Centre to amend the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, to reflect this, should also have insisted on the grant of Special Category Status (SCS) for the country.
Mr Shivaji said in a statement that when the Cabinet approved the proposal to amend the law by Article 5 (2), the capital of Andhra Pradesh’s separatist states was identified as Amaravati, which prevented the government from requiring the Centre to include special categories in the bill. “Parliament has long been criticized for not drafting the restructuring properly because you have the opportunity, what prevents you from modifying it?” he asked Chief Minister N.
