Apartment owners have weapons on the rate of drinking water provided by tankers

Dissatisfaction among apartment owners grew on rates of drinking water provided by tankers, which took effect early this month.

Regional collectors set the rate at a meeting after frequent disputes between tanker truck owners and apartment associations over the matter. According to the revised rate, a 2,000-liter tanker costs Rs 1,000, 6,000-liter costs Rs 1,800, and 12,000-liter costs ₹2,600, and every additional 1,000-liter costs more than 12,000-liters.

The consortium of Flat & Villa Owners Association (Kerala) threatens to trigger stirring unless new interest rates return immediately. The organization reminds you that when tanker truck operators unilaterally raised the tax rate by 45% to 50% in December last year, collectors intervened and stopped it. “However, the new rates benefit tanker operators a lot and put a heavy burden on apartment owners who rely on tanker water,” the association said in a statement.

The Welfare Association of Drinking Water Transporters in Ernakulam District claims that the fixed uniform interest rate across the region is lower than the similarity rate of Thiruvananthapuram. So far, there is no uniform drinking water rate on tanker trucks in Ernakulam district.

“We insist on receiving several complaints about the quality of water provided at a lower price,” said R. Ramachandran, Secretary General of the Association.

Regional government sources said multiple meetings convened at the collector level and deputy collectors (disaster management) failed to address the differences initially. After that, the regional transport officer was asked to submit a proposal in consideration of various factors such as the distance covered.

They added: “The interest rate decided now is slightly higher than the apartment owners’ demands, and is lower than what the tanker owners ask for.

However, with all Kerala Flat Owners Association Somanathan vs. Somanathan believes the new interest rate puts the apartment association in a difficult position. “Many apartment owners are reluctant to pay more excuses or another excuse that puts the association first,” he said.
