Apple wants to pay $95 million in Siri privacy lawsuit: How to file a claim?

Apple has agreed to pay $95 million (approximately Rs 810 crore) settled a class action lawsuit accusing Siri, the voice assistant of the tech giant, of recording users without consent. “Apple denies all allegations in the lawsuit and denies that Apple has done anything that is improper or illegal,” the settlement website noted.

Under legal notice, U.S. users who own or purchase SIRI-enabled devices between September 17, 2014 and December 31, 2024 may be eligible for compensation.

The lawsuit states that people’s “confidential or private communications are obtained by Apple and shared with third parties due to accidental activation.” Siri is a voice assistant activated by saying “Hey Siri” that can set reminders, control smart home devices and make suggestions.

According to the settlement website, people who have Siri enabled iPhones and other Apple devices between September 17, 2014 and December 31, 2024 and “experienced unexpected Siri activation during confidential or private communications” are eligible to file a claim.

Users can claim compensation of $20 per device using up to five devices, meaning some devices may receive up to $100. The final amount may depend on how many people file a claim.

The settlement website notes that the final approval hearing for the solution is scheduled to be held at 9 a.m. on August 1, 2025, but an appeal may be filed to delay spending. It said: “If there is no appeal, your settlement benefits will be processed quickly. Please be patient.”

Consumers can visit Lopez’s official voice assistant settlement website to submit a claim. Those who receive a claim ID via email or postcard can use it to submit faster, but it is not mandatory.

The deadline for filing a claim is July 2, 2025.

Although Apple denies any misconduct, the company agreed to a settlement to avoid extending the lawsuit. The final court hearing to approve the settlement is scheduled to take place on August 1, 2025.
