Apple’s top five brands in India’s January-March quarter saw its highest growth of 23%, a first-quarter record of three million units, the IDC report said on Monday. In the March quarter, the iPhone 16 was the highest-shipped model, accounting for 4% of Indian shipments in the first quarter of 2025.
With fewer launches in the first two months of the year, the brand focuses on providing retail support, discounts and lower prices to clear inventory. “However, the new launch in March was in the price segment in March to drive demand with enhanced marketing campaigns,” said Aditya Rampal, a researcher at IDC Asia Pacific Equipment Research Fellow.
ASP (Average Selling Price) reached $274 in Q1 2025, up 4% (year). The premium segment (600-$800) grew at 78.6%, with share increasing from 2% to 4%. The iPhone 16 alone accounts for 32% of the goods in this segment. The medium-term sector ($400-$600) also saw strong growth of 74%, with a share of 6% from 3% of shares. The report said Apple and Samsung’s share has increased in this segment, led by the iPhone 13 and Galaxy A56.
There were approximately 29 million 5G smartphones this quarter. The share of 5G smartphone shipping increased to 88%, up from 69% in Q1 2024, with ASP down 11% to $300. Within 5G, the share of the low-end (Asian US $100) sector reached 7%, leading by affordable new launches, while 45% of the shipment remained within the quality budget sector ($100-$200).
The report said the Qualcomm-based cargo grew 40.8% to 31.8% share, led by Xiaomi’s Redmi 14c (such as Redmi 14C), while Mediatek’s share dropped to 43.6% from 55.3% drop in freight 25.5% drop in freight. As ASP increases, IDC estimates that as ASP increases, the number of units increases in 2025 will be lower, resulting in an annual increase in the value of the middle digits.
