Rajasthan finds more farms, gastrointestinal labels for spice crops

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of Rajasthan has begun the process to obtain geographic indication (GI) tags for agricultural, horticulture and spice products.Panch Gaurav‘(Five Prides) and “One Region, One Product” event. Currently, up to 16 products and 5 art forms in the state enjoy GI status.

The “One Region, One Product” program emphasizes the geographical characteristics of the region, butPanch GauravIn each region, the driver focuses on one crop, a plant species, a product, a tourist destination and a sport.

National Agriculture Minister Rajan Vishal said on Saturday (5 April 2025) that an inter-departmental committee will prepare a list of these special agricultural, horticultural and spice products and take action to obtain the GI tag for them. The state’s gastrointestinal label products include Sojat henna in the agricultural sector and Bikaneri Bhujia in the agricultural sector.

Protect IP rights

The Senior Inter-Departmental Committee will include officials in the Agriculture, Horticulture and Agricultural Marketing Department, Rajasthan Seed Seed Company, Rajasthan State Seed and Organic Certification Body, and Agricultural University in the state.

Mr. Vishal interacted with GI experts and representatives from the Agricultural University.

He said that as demand for GI-labeled products will multiply, it will make profits for farmers and improve their financial situation. “Acquiring a gastrointestinal label will increase the value of a particular product and provide recognition to those associated with it, in addition to preventing the production of counterfeit goods,” he said.
