West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress President Mamata Banerjee urged all parties to comply with the Constitution and her party members were fighting for WAQF property and said the “Jumla Party” wanted to split the people.

Ms. Banerjee said: “…The Zumla Party has a split plan. They think there is only division and rules and policies, and we don’t. First respect the constitution and then consider seizing someone’s rights.”
The Chief Minister often referred to the Bharatiya Janata party as the “Jumla party”.

Trinamool’s Congress’ remarks were brought in the WAQF (Amendment) bill of 2025, proposed by the Joint Parliament Committee, and reviewed and passed in Lok Sabha.
Trinamool MP from Serampore Kalyan Banerjee opposes the WAQF (Amendment) bill of 2025 when participating in parliamentary debates.

Speaking about the Bill, Ms. Banerjee said, “We should all respect the Constitution first. Always remember, religion is for everyone, festivals are for everyone. I listen to the sermons of Shri Krishna. I read the sermons and writings of Swami Vivekananda, Netaji, Gandhiji, Ambedkar, Abul Kalam Azad and Ramakrishna. If someone’s actions are inhuman, then they cannot respect any religion.
“Keep peace during Ram Nawami”
The Chief Minister also spoke about the proposed Ram Navami celebration and urged all communities to maintain peace during the Ram Navami. She urges people not to pay attention to any rumors. Ms Banerjee participated in the annual Eid prayer on Red Road in Kolkata on Monday (31 March 2025) and claimed that the opposition party in West Bengal, “RAM and BAAM”, was trying to incite the riots.
Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari once again raised a propaganda for the Ram Navami celebration and urged Hindus to “show their strength” by participating in the parade.
Kolkata Police Chief Manoj Verma visited several locations in Sealdah, Enstally and Tangra, and took stock of Ram Navami preparations. The Commissioner wanted to see directly whether CCTV was effective in these areas and spoke with the department DC to audit the security requirements for next Sunday and finalize the route.
In Howrah, senior police visited various places and prepared for the festival. A senior police officer said music was not allowed on speakers, although parades would be allowed.
