The days they once spent tended to fields and families, and had hardly thought of careers that went beyond the borders of the village. But now, these 40 rural women from Sri Karahasti are redefining their future – equipped with makeup brushes, beauty kits and a newly discovered sense of purpose as certified beauticians prepare to enter the world of health and self-reliance.

Their transformation is the result of a 90-day beautician training course, part of a skill development program initiated by Electric Motor Foundry Limited (ECL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. Companies that produce ductile iron pipes and accessories promote local women to villages around their factories by providing employment skills.

So far, two batches have successfully completed the training, with 40 women receiving certificates from the Tirupati Municipal Corporation Commissioner of N. Mourya and at a commemorative event held in Srikalahasti on Wednesday. The success of the program has sparked interest, with the third batch of 30 women already enrolled – proving that the initiative has changed not only lives, but also the way rural communities think.

Ms. Ms. Muriya appreciates the initiative to ensure the economic independence of women who revel in semi-city and low-income groups, suggesting to beauticians the use of social media platforms such as X and Instagram to promote their products and services.

ECL Executive Director Suresh Khandelwal reviewed the company’s early success in tailoring and fashion design courses and spoke about the latest initiatives that aim to train local women as professional beauticians. Dorai Rauj, senior general manager of Srikalahasti department, highlighted ECL’s continued commitment to improving the living standards of the communities around its factory through targeted outreach programs.

Later, Ms. Ms. Muria visited the sewage treatment plant, from which the industrial operations of the water were processed from ECL sources. Mr Khandelwal thanked MCT for his support and highlighted the company’s allies’ environmental programs, including productive reuse of locally generated waste.

Deputy Chief Operating Officer Rajiv Prakash also attended the event.
