ASR area uses Dandora to remind the public

Visakhapatnam: The Alluri Sitharama Raju Regional Management is using the original communication method to remind the public that in view of the tensions on the India-Pakistan border, the precautions to be taken, thus exposing the bad road networks and communication systems in the region.
The region has a population of 1 million, with only 50% of whom have mobile phones and access to the internet. Only 60% of the region is within mobile network coverage.
“We conducted a simulation exercise last Wednesday, and all officials were told to pass information to the Mandal and rural levels. We will use 244 staff from Ward Sachivalayams (Secretariat) to spread the information to the public,” said Abhishek Gud, the responsible collector.
Abhishek said Anganwadi workers, ANMS (Assisted Nurse Midwife), teachers will get engaged to explain to villagers the precautions they need to take.
“We can also use the original communication method, Dandora verbally tells the people,” he said.
“We (ASR region) will soon have 1,000 cellular towers to improve the communication network,” he added. These towers appear mainly in areas affected by left-wing extremism.
In 2023, the central government under the Universal Services Obligation Fund proposed to install more than 2,000 cellular towers in remote areas of the ASR and Parvathipuram.
Of these, about 1,800 towers were installed in three revenue and ITDA jurisdictions of Paderu, Chintur and Rampachodavaram.
