ASR Region: Police, Maoists exchange fire

Visakhapatnam: On Monday, Special Armed Forces and illegal Maoists exchanged fires near Kakulamidi village in Koyyuru Mandal, Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district on Monday.

According to ASR police, special forces were deployed in Koyyuru Mandal on April 27, according to intelligence from Maoist movement in the region. At around 10.30 a.m. on Monday, security personnel discovered about 15 Maoists in Olive-Green near Kakulamamidi. Maoists opened fire, prompting police to retaliate against the fire. Maoists fled, abandoning ammunition, logistics and technical equipment.

At around 2.30 pm, I saw the escaped Maoists again near the village of Cantavalam. Another round of shooting occurred before the Maoists escaped.

Police recovered SLR magazine with ammunition, advanced communications equipment, Kindle Tab, medicines and kit bags.

Senior Maoist leaders, including Jagan, Company Commander Suresh and AOB Special District Committee Secretary Uday, reportedly passed Revulakotakantavaram before meeting near KakulamiDi, about 5 km from Palakajeedi in Koyyuru Mandal.
