1,275 minor driving cases booked in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In the special driving of minors launched on April 5, Hyderabad police booked 1,275 cases and began strict actions, including cancellation of vehicle registration. So far, registration of 35 cars has been cancelled and more cancellations have been made.

D. Joel Davis’s Joint Commissioner for Transportation cites Section 199A of the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988, which strictly prohibits minors from operating motor vehicles. “This violation has serious legal consequences, not only for underage drivers, but also for the guardian or owner of the owner,” he said.

As part of the law enforcement drive, the traffic police filed a request with the Regional Transportation Administration (RTA) to cancel the registration certificate for vehicles driven by minors. The RTA has canceled 35 such registrations and conducted further reviews.

Joel Davis issued a public appeal urging parents and guardians to avoid allowing minors to drive, warning minors and other road users. He also noted that minors arrested driving will be banned from obtaining a 25-year-old driver’s license. “Citizens’ cooperation is crucial to prevent road accidents and save lives. For public safety, this driving force will continue,” he added.
