SC prevents Nashik Dargah from demolition

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday stopped the notice from Nashik Municipal Corporation, ordering the demolition of Hazrat Saatpeer Sayed Baba Dargah and asked the Mumbai High Court to explain why the request for the shrine was not listed for nearly 10 days.

Justices PS Narasimha and Joymalya Bagchi issued a temporary stay in a demolition notice of the civic body on April 1 after a senior advocate Navin Pahwa told the court on April 1 that the committee filed a written petition from the Dargah committee in the High Court on April 7.

“We think this is unusual given the attorney’s statement that it is trying to get a listing every day,” the judge said. The case will now be heard on April 21.

The court also sought responses from Nashik Municipal Corporation and other authorities on the grounds that it would prevent potential demolition of religious structures.
