Balanagar Sitaphal’s mature GI tag will make Telangana on global map

Hyderabad: Telangana’s famous Balanagar Sitaphal is known for its sugar-sweet pulp, just one step away from getting the Geographic Instruction (GI) tag, and the final on-site inspection is scheduled to span orchards across the Mahbubnagar, Rangareddy and Vikarabad regions on April 22.
Traditionally sold from touring suppliers in the suburbs of Hyderabad, it became famous on the iconic Moazzamjahi Market Market Parlour of the 1950s.
Medium green egg ust apples contain 29.6% carbohydrates, 5.2% protein and 19.4% vitamin C – more than most other varieties of nutritional levels. This variety is marked by its adaptability and high yield.
The gastrointestinal label will give Balanagar Sitaphal brand rights, especially because of the surge in demand for cream cake pulp and powders in the ice cream industry. Products related to a specific geographical location are given. It is a certification of the quality, reputation or characteristics of the product unique to its origin.
Dr. Saidaiah Pidigam, Dean of Moyera Horticulture College and principal investigator of the GI project, said that the report will be submitted to the Chennai-based GI registry immediately after the visit. “Once approved, it will formally delineate the growing regions, bringing global recognition and premium prices to local growers,” he noted.
GI BID has financial support from Nabard, who approved Rs 1.2 lakh registration research, application fee and promotion after registration. “We regard Balanagar Sitaphal as a holistic rural development project,” said Swati Tiwari, deputy general manager of Nabard. He added that the bank has supported 116 GI products nationwide, including Pochampally Ikat from Telangana.
Intellectual property practitioner Subhajit Saha’s company is preparing the app, he said up to a dozen Telangana products can be submitted within a year. “Authorized user certificates will give farmers, foragers and processors exclusive brand rights, especially because of the demand for the egg usst-apple pulp and powder wave in the ice cream industry,” he explained.
If awarded, the GI tag will raise Telangana’s statistics to 19 and turn this once modest forest fruit into a certified regional pride.
