As moderate to heavy rains continue to hit several areas of the city of Bengaluru on Tuesday, residents are working to return to normal despite the flood response resources deployed by Bruhart Bangalore Mahanagara Park (BBMP).
According to residents working all day, cleaning up the water with the civic team, the water level of the Sri Sai layout dropped by just one inch. “Water will only be discharged when the flood enters Challakere Lake at its own speed, and because of the high quantum, there is no pump to discharge water. At least 200 are affected by the flood due to rain,” said one resident.

Neelufar Ahmad, another resident of the layout, said: “The water level is reduced by only one inch and the pump is useless. Normally, only two weeks later, as long as the rains are coming to an end. Mr Ahmad said the BBMP had ensured that the issue was permanently resolved, adding that the BBMP had been providing food to people in the area.
He added: “But unless the displacement is expanded, the problem will continue and cooperation from the railway sector may be possible. Instead, the BBMP and the railway are blaming the game when people suffer.”

In the layout of Sany Finance, Sandra Noel worked hard to clean the house. She thanked BBMP for its flood response action, which helped lower the water level.
However, Miss Noel kept her fingers crossed as the cloudy weather continued in Bengaluru. “On Tuesday morning, it was raining but it did not cause any major damage. The rain lost our lives and we are now evaluating the damage. It will take weeks for us to get back to normal life.”
The rainbow drive layout almost escaped the impact of this rainfall. A resident who asked not to be named said that despite the water entering the layout, the water level did not rise. Lake Halanayakanahalli has not been filled yet, which is a blessing for residents. But residents continue to live in fear, he said.

The water was almost drained on the St Bed layout in Koramangala, but residents were busy cleaning the debris left behind.
