Bangladesh Board of Directors Moves SC to Modify Order Cancel 25,000 School Jobs

A senior source from the Ministry of Education said the West Bengal Secondary Education Commission (WBBSE) filed a Supreme Court on Monday asking for a “modification” to cancel 25,000 jobs in schools last week. In appealing to the Supreme Court, the board’s attorneys request that “deserved” candidates be allowed to participate in duties before the end of the school year or until the new recruitment process as directed by the court, whichever is earlier.

“I did not provide information or comments,” said WBBSE President Ramanuj Ganguly. Most of the cancelled areas were canceled for secondary work at the school. The Supreme Court discovered large-scale violations during the 2016 recruitment process and canceled the entire group on April 3, with a total of 25,753 state-run and – auxiliary schools teaching and non-teaching personnel unemployed.

Those who have been unemployed claim that the reason behind their plight is that appointing their School Services Commission (SSC) cannot distinguish between candidates who have obtained employment by fraudulent means and those who have not obtained jobs.

SSC Chairman Siddhartha Majumdar told PTI on Monday that the committee will soon relocate the Supreme Court to seek some clarification on the order and work. Education Minister Bratya Basu earlier said the Supreme Court was not satisfied with the SSC’s filing and it would seek guidance from the top courts on the issue.

A Supreme Court judge composed of Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna and Sanjay Kumar, described the entire selection process in 2016 as being deceived and contaminated and filed a Kolkata High Court judgment on April 22, 2024 to eliminate the appointment.
