Bangladesh’s 25-acre technology covering 25 acres in new town – Entertainment park enters “concert economy”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a series of industrial initiatives in the state on Wednesday (May 14, 2025) including a new technology – Entertainment Park.

Located in the outskirts of Kolkata, New Town has become a booming business district.

“Remember that whether it’s innovation, entertainment, creativity, cultural programs or many other events, the concept of concert economy is an innovative idea. We have the infrastructure here. 25 acres of land is a huge field of land. It will be international standards. Here we can host international cultural events. International cultural events from across the country will come too.”

She added that the park is named “Biswa Angan” (the courtyard of the world) in Bengali and “Iitec” in English, which stands for “International Information, Technology, Entertainment and Culture”.

Ms Banerjee further stated that the project was developed based on the public-private partnership (PPP) model of the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO).

“We have cleared the land today and will be tendered afterwards,” she said.

Local artisan market

On Tuesday, the Chief Minister also announced the development of new shopping malls and large-scale markets in 23 regions of the state, targeting local artisans as part of the Self-Service Group (SHG).

“We will build 23 shopping malls and large markets in 23 areas. The government will provide one acre of land for free. Private parties will do the construction. In exchange for land, they will provide two floors to self-service groups for free.”

She added that the two floors will be exclusively dedicated to handmade goods made locally by SHG in the region. “This will ensure the market for SHG,” the chief minister said.

She also said that the government provided licensing for the project in 11 regions (i.e. Purulia, Darjeeling, Bankura, Coochbehar, Howrah, Jalpaiguri, Jalpaiguri, Jhargram, Jhargram, Murshidabad, Paschim Midnapore and Uttar Dinajpur).

“Since there is now Jagannath Dham in Digha, many tourists want to shop from there, we are still looking for a good land so that in addition to the existing market, we can also build a good market there.”

Other industrial projects

The Chief Minister also announced that the state’s ten industrial plots with a cumulative area of ​​2,515 acres will be allocated to multiple major companies, especially the steel industry.

“These projects will attract investment worth more than Rs 250 crore. More than 70,000 people will benefit from direct and indirect employment,” she said.

On Tuesday, 15 industrial estates in 15 regions were allocated to develop 43 micro and small-scale industries. She claims these will attract tens of millions of investments and help create jobs across the state.

Ms Banerjee said: “Bangladesh is leading the country’s MSME sector…There is a high demand for industrial growth in Bangladesh. We are conducting inspections on the land and conducting the necessary processes and permits to continue moving forward.”
