BCCI announces India’s new test captain and England’s vice captain for that date, keeping silent about Virat Kohli’s retirement

India has started a five-match Test series in England, which also marks the beginning of their journey in the 2025-27 cycle of the World Test Championship. The series will change after Rohit Sharma retires from Test Cricket.

The landscape of Indian cricket is currently undergoing a significant shift. Rohit Sharma has announced her retirement from red ball cricket, and reports suggest Virat Kohli is also considering hanging up his test boots, resulting in a famous vacuum cleaner. The board is working to convince Colee to continue on the upcoming England tour, but the selectors have not given any chance.

Given these developments, Rishabh Pant will be appointed as India’s new vice captain for testing matches, and the talented Shubman Gill is ready to take over as the national team in a traditional format. Given his impressive record as a test batsman in overseas conditions, the decision to appoint Pant as vice captain is logical. Jasprit Bumrah, on the other hand, was considered due to his height and ongoing fitness issues, which could impact his availability for the entire series.

Pant’s excellent average of more than 42, combined with centuries of Australia, England and South Africa, as well as several nearly centuries, cemented his position as one of the leading batsmen in Test cricket.

“If Boomla is not the captain, then there is no point.”

While the cricket community may be surprised by Kohli’s reported desire to retire from Test cricket, discussions on the selection committee may entrust him to take leadership responsibilities in England to give Gill more time to develop. However, Kohli is believed to have not officially announced that he is believed to be urging him to participate in the upcoming five-test series in England, and he has also announced his retirement from Test cricket given the challenging conditions and the absence of Rohit Sharma.

BCCI avoided details of discussions with Kohli about his exam career. Despite attempts to engage with selector Ajit Agarkar and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, no response has been made so far.

New Captain and India’s Test Squad are fast

BCCI will announce the new Indian cricket team test captain on May 23, as well as the England Test Series. Virat Kohli allegedly expressed his desire to retire from Test cricket, so BCCI tried to convince him to change his decision. This is likely to be the reason for announcing the delay for the squad, originally scheduled for May 20. Things are underway and it remains to be seen whether Kohli will turn around his retirement decision.
