In addition to the crime thriller Thudarum in 2025, the other two Malayalam films will be over Rs 20 billion, which is the 2024 survival thriller Manjummel Boys and the 2025 action thriller L2: Empuraan.
The Malayalam crime thriller Thudarum has been breaking multiple box office records since its release on April 25, 2025. Directed by Tharun Moorthy, the film also stars Shobana, Prakash Varma, Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Thomas Mathew, and Krishna Prabha in key roles.
After the 2024 survival thriller Manjummel Boys and the 2025 action thriller L2: Empuraan, Thudarum has become the Malayalam film ever to span Rs 20 billion at the global box office. Director Chidambaram has a box office of Rs 24.2 crore, Mohanlal-starrer, Prithviraj Sukumaran directed Lucifer sequel 268 crore worldwide.
Mohanlal shared an announcement poster on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, and he posted a heartfelt note, thanking the audience, “Rs 200 crore! Some journeys don’t require noise, just noise moves it forward. Thudarum found millions of hearts around the world, breaking all box office records in Kerala.
Netizens praised the delivery of two back-to-back blockbusters with L2: Empuraan and Thudarum on the superstar. One wrote: “It’s a landmark. Congratulations to the entire #thudarum family and our legend @mohanlal on this epic journey. It’s more milestones,” while the other added, “This is the first South Indian actor who achieved an incredible feat of releasing two movies spanning 2 million in January.” L2: Empuraan will be released on March 27.

Prior to Thudarum, Tharun Moorthy made his debut in the 2021 crime thriller Java Operation, with his second film, Crime Drama 2022, Saudi Arabia won the National Film Award for Best Malayalam. The 2025 thriller was produced by M. Renjith under his banner Rejaputra Visual Media.
