Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has made record profits for the first time since its inception.

The news comes after the board meeting of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) held on May 16, chaired by Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, who is also the chairman of BIAL.

In a press release, BIAL emphasized that this achievement was a “main turning point.” It added that record profits reflect strong financial shifts and positioned BLR Airport as continuous progress.

Level 5 certification

As of May 5, 2024, BLR Airport became the first airport in Asia to obtain Level 5 certification under the Airport Council International (ACI) Airport Carbon Certification Program. The top certification recognizes a 95.6% reduction in GHG emissions in Scope 1 and 2, allowing airports to reach their 2030 target for a full seven years before zero net emissions in these categories.

BLR Airport won the silver award in 2025 at Green Airports at ACI, a 1.5-3.8 billion passenger category, which is the “Sustainable Energy” theme.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the airport has gained sustainability recognition from ACI.
