The All-India Muslim Private Law Commission called on Tuesday (1 April 2025) to all secular parties, including allies of the BJP and members of the parliament, to strongly oppose the WAQF bill, which is in no way beneficial to it.

Its appeal is the day before Lok Sabha accepts the controversial WAQF (Amendment) bill for discussion and passage. Rajya Sabha is expected to take place on Thursday (3 April 2025), each of which was allocated eight hours to debate the proposed law.

Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, President of the All Muslim Private Law Commission (AIMPLB), called on all secular parties and members of parliament to not only strongly oppose the bill when it was introduced in parliament, but also voted against the “public agenda of preventing the BJP”.

He said in a statement that the bill was not only based on discrimination and injustice, but directly contradicted the provisions of basic rights in Articles 14, 25 and 26 of the Constitution.

Rahmani said that the BJP aims to weaken WAQF laws and pave the way for seizures and disruption of WAQF Properties through the bill.

“Even if the Places of Worship Act exists, the problem of finding temples in every mosque is escalating. If this amendment is passed, illegal government and non-government claims on WAQF properties will surge, making it easier for collectors and district magistrates to catch them,” he said.

The Chairman of the AIMPLB further stated in his call that the amendments would result in the repeal of WAQF Deputy Users, the removal of exemptions from the restriction law, the inclusion of non-Muslim members on the WAQF Board and the Central WAQF Council, and the reduction of WAQF Tribunals – would effectively deprive WAQF Propertions changes.

“In addition, including government entities (central and state governments, municipal corporations, municipal corporations and semi-autonomous bodies) in this Act, in provisions that the government claims are resolved by collectors or district magistrates rather than WAQF courts, this is an amendment to the legalization of the government’s violations of WAQF Properties,” he said. ”

Rahmani said it is also necessary to mention that these protections are also granted to other communities for religious endowments, so it is discrimination and injustice to target Muslim WAQF property only.

“I hope you and your party will strongly oppose the WAQF (Amendment) bill of 2024, which will be considered in parliament tomorrow (Wednesday) and will not allow hundreds of thousands of Muslim citizens across the country to appreciate your confidence and those you represent.” His positive action. ”
