Bomb panic on a bound plane at Kolkata Airport Mumbai

Kolkata: Officials said a private airline plane was taken to the Quarantine Bay at Kolkata Airport on Tuesday afternoon to conduct a thorough security check in case passengers carry bombs.

The passenger told airline security officials that he had a bomb, an airport authority in India (AAI) official said.

He said the 26-year-old passenger stopped in Kolkata and commented during a stair point inspection.

He added: “The passenger’s claim was declared specific, enhanced safety and implemented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Passengers arrived in Kolkata on Indigo flight, which was supposed to fly the same airline to Mumbai on the same airline.

The official said a total of 186 passengers were supposed to fly from Kolkata to Mumbai, with 179 passengers already boarding.

He said the flight was supposed to depart at 1.30pm for Mumbai but was postponed as the plane was evacuated and taken to the quarantine bay for thorough inspection.

“The 6e Indigo flight 5227, operating from Kolkata to Mumbai, operated from Kolkata to bomb threats before departure. The aircraft was moved to a quarantine bay at Kolkata Airport under the security protocol. All necessary checks were made and standard operating procedures were followed.”

All airports in the country have strengthened security following the Indian-Pakistan military conflict.
