Breaking News real-time update: ISRO launches EOS-09 satellite on PSLV-C61 for high-resolution earth monitoring

The mission will mark the 63rd flight of the PSLV, and the 27th ISRO is using the PSLV-XL configuration. EOS-09 will be placed in a Sun Synchronous Polar Orbit (SSPO), continuing the use of the PSLV platform using ISRO for precise deployment across a variety of payloads and altitudes.
ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan confirmed: “The release is scheduled for Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota at 5:59 a.m..”
What is EOS-09 and why it matters
EOS-09 is a follow-up mission to EOS-04 and earlier RISAT-1 satellites. It is designed to provide consistent remote sensing data, especially for operators who require real-time images.
Manish Purohit, a former ISRO scientist, explains the satellite’s broad implications. “This kind of launch is strategic,” he said.
He added: “It strengthens monitoring of borders and coasts, especially in sensitive areas. Satellites can detect entrances and exits or suspicious movements are crucial in counter-terrorism operations, especially after the recent Pahalgam terrorist attacks and Sindoor operations.”
The satellite uses C-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR), which enables it to capture high-resolution images in all weather conditions during day or night. This makes it a powerful tool in agriculture, forestry, disaster management and defense.
