Ottawa: Three-term Liberal Party members of Canadian Parliament Chandra Arya have been banned from participating in upcoming elections under the party’s banner. Indian MPs of the Indian faith have been voice critics for former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau because he avoided pro-Khalistan elements of the country.

“As a member of parliament, I have interacted with numerous diplomats and government leaders in Canada and internationally. I have never sought permission from the government and did not need to seek – nor did I seek to do so. Oppose the extremist position of Khalistan.

Citing a report by Canada’s leading Globe and Post, he mentioned that Arya met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi last August and did not inform the government of the trip even though Canada’s bilateral relations with India were in a deep freeze.
The liberals have not disclosed why they ban Arya from entering the party’s recent leadership contest or seeking re-election in Ottawa’s Riding Nepaine constituency.

The newspaper cited another Liberal source and reported that the Canadian Security Intelligence Agency had introduced Arya to the government to the close ties to the Indian government, including its high-level committee in Ottawa. It further mentioned that Liberal officials who had security approvals and received a general brief on CSIS on foreign intervention were concerned about Arya.

In December, Arya informed the House of Commons that he was threatened by Free MP Sukh Dhaliwal on his way out for refusing to agree to the House of Representatives motion to condemn the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in India as “genocide”. And another unnamed MP is “actively” lobbying the government.
