Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney asked the Governor to dissolve the parliament on Sunday and called for an election on April 28, pointing to the need to deal with tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump.
He posted on X, pointing out that Canadians should have the opportunity to choose who should lead the effort to strengthen the economy and address challenges, including dealing with U.S. President Trump’s tariffs.
“I just asked the Governor to dissolve the parliament and convene a federal election on April 28. We need to build the strongest economy in the G7. We need to deal with President Trump’s tariffs. Canadians should choose who should lead this effort for our country,” he said.
